FITMENT

Lift Height Note: 2020 Super Duties were lowered 1” from the factory when comparing to the 2017-19. Further, the Tremor Package is a factory 2” lift on the 20-22 platform putting them 1” taller than the 17-19. As these all START at different heights yet utilize the same lifts, the stated lift height is different. They’ll all end up measuring the same with the lift installed!

Use Case

Utilizing Carli SPEC 2.0″ Diameter, Remote Reservoir shocks, Carli has bdeveloped a tune that delivers all around comfort and ride quality designed for on-road, in town, highway, towing/hauling as well as slow to mid speed off road use.

The Super Duty Backcountry 2.0 system is designed for people seeking the best ride on and off-road quality on a budget; basically, the Commuter for those that want to have a little dirt-road fun in their 8,500lb truck without losing the on-road ride quality or usability for which the truck was designed. You’re no longer limited to the highway while gravel roads become uninteresting as you can drive them at speed with one hand on the wheel. This is a great shock package for those who work their trucks, but want some additional off road capability without sacrifice.

We know, because we have run them for a year on our F350 that tows frequently, carries a constant payload of 1000lbs, and at times exceeding 3500lbs. We wheel this truck frequently on the weekend, have done most of the trails in Moab and frequently eats up Jeep Badge of Honor Trails.

Construction

The remote reservoir Carli SPEC 2.0 boasts 6063 Aluminum construction, anodized body for corrosion resistance, 5/8″ hardened steel chrome plated shaft, full serviceability & rebuildability and are built with 1-peice bushings in the 6061 billet rod-ends. These shocks are spec’d with a premium 5WT oil to balance lubricity, consistent damping and the widest available range in temperature variation. We back these with a 1-year warranty, serviced by Carli.

The stem-top bushings are something we’re excited about. In our vast experience with shocks, we’ve become bushing snobs. In an industry obsessed with poly bushings, we’ve always measured against our benchmark – the original rubber Bilstein bushings. In an eyelet style, poly is fantastic – in a stem-top, we’ve not met a poly bushing we preferred to tried and true rubber. They do not seem to handle the forces of the stem-top as well as a rubber bushing. We’re elated to be able to spec a rubber bushing on these Carli Spec Shocks. Elated may be an exaggeration but we eat, sleep and breath shocks – to eliminate such a frequent point of failure is exciting!

The rod ends are constructed of 6061 billet aluminum; inside you will find a high-quality 1-peice bushing and zinc-plated crush sleeves for precision fit and longevity.

The cylinder end cap has a unique design as it overlaps the body of the shock to provide external support to the internal snap ring. These shocks serve as the travel limiter for all trucks without our radius arms (and subsequent limit straps installed), ensuring the shock stays together on top out while bearing the load of the axle is paramount.

The Remote Reservoir variant adds the separate canister to carry the dividing piston and nitrogen charge leaving the entirety of the body available for extended piston travel. Without getting too technical, a Remote Reservoir will have more suspension travel than an IFP with the same mounting dimensions.  In adding this canister, we have spec’d a high quality hose and fittings (better than our Fox offerings) similar to the one offered on our King shocks.

Why Change From FOX

Through our 20 years in business, we have built our brand by pairing our manufactured parts with complementing products built to our specification from other industry-leading manufacturers in their respective markets. Through endless trials with these manufacturers, we’ve built a formidable knowledge database fit to produce, or improve, any of these items to suit our applications. Suffice it to say, we know a thing or two about shock quality and tuning.

Having worked with several shock manufacturers, we’ve expanded our capability through contention with varying approaches to shock, piston, and tuning shim design. These trials made us better and, in searching for a replacement shock for the Foxes, made our check-list longer and quality standards more stringent.

Namely I would like to touch on the experience and the Carli brand. Our commitment to ride quality is second to none. This commitment led us to move forward with the Carli-spec line. Our systems did not ride the way they did because they included Fox shocks; it was Sage Carli’s unwavering commitment to custom valving every truck to optimize the ride of the respective system. This ethos remains; the differentiator between the Carli SPEC and the Foxes they’re replacing is the 10 years of knowledge we’ve gained in working with Fox’s 2.0″ line that we’ll be applying in valving these shocks. We’re smarter today with far more tuning capability than 10 years ago and that’s reflected in the ride quality of the shocks we’ve tuned thus far – every kit gets a bit more refined than the one before it.

Additionally, these shocks are private labeled for Carli providing us full control of the warranty!

The warranty covers manufacturer defect for 1 year from the date of purchase. We service the warranty so you’ll work directly with us for any warranty concerns.

Custom Valving Based on Your Leaf Pack

These Shocks are custom tuned for whichever leaf pack you have via internal shock valving. This makes a huge difference vs. basic leveling kits when it comes to ride quality and longevity. There are 3 different options to choose from:

Best: A replacement Full Progressive Spring Pack

A replacement Full Progressive Spring Pack (reduces capacity to a “light” ¾-ton). The Full Progressive Leaf Spring Pack offers the best ride and will shift the axle slightly forward in the wheel well to ensure maximum tire clearance for a 37” M/T at full compression. The Full Replacement Leaf Springs do not require any block (factory block is removed). This will be the best possible ride, but sacrifices payload.

If you do not plan to frequently haul 1500lb+ in the bed, this should not be an issue. Additionally, customers tend to add air bags in order to compensate for the load when needed, and enjoy the ride quality at all other times.

Better: Factory leaf-pack modifying Progressive Add-a-Pack

Factory leaf-pack modifying Progressive Add-a-Pack (maintains factory payload capacity and pairs with the factory 3-5/8” block). The Add-a-Packs are designed to work with trucks equipped with the 2” rear block. Super Duties equipped with a 3-5/8″ tall block from the factory will require the factory 2″ tall Block to achieve a leveled stance with the Add-a-Pack. Part Number: 7C3Z-5598-L and 7C3Z-5598-K.

Good: Factory OEM Leaf Pack

Good: The final option is to select “NO rear option” in this scenario, the rear lift will be left up to the customer as no rear spring modification is purchased. With this option, the rear springs are unaltered and customers will be best with the “PAP” valving profile.

Though this won't ride as well as the other two, this is still a substantial improvement over stock or a standard leveling kit.

Additionally, Carli offers their Signature series for a shock tuned specifically for the OEM rear leaf pack for a simple bolt in upgrade to replace those old shocks on your truck.

Wheel and Tire

Wheel and Tire: Factory Wheels SHOULD NOT be run with oversized tires. They’re known to rub the radius arm, sway bar and most concerning – Brake Lines. Factory tires and factory wheels will work without issue but we DO NOT recommend running oversized tires on factory wheels. On our 2.5” Ford Systems, we recommend 17”-18” wheels, no more than 9” wide with 5.5” of backspacing with Carli Fabricated Radius Arms or 5” Backspace with factory arms; 5” will require a bit more trimming. Tires, 37×12.5” will fit with some trimming; 35” will likely fit without trimming. The more rubber, the better the small bump compliance will be at proper inflation pressures. The ride will firm up as you go larger in wheel diameter.
